Now that I have worked in the third sector - within a social enterprise that has both environmental and social return - I couldn't go back to the private sector.
Working in the third sector is inspiring, motivating and rewarding, and every day I feel like I am making a positive contribution to the community in which I live, and the planet.
If I did move jobs and I'm not saying that I am, just if, then my new job would definitely have to be a 'green collar' job. (I read this phrase yesterday and love it!)
And it would have to be a green collar job not only for the reasons outlined already but also because I believe that the way in which we live is unsustainable. I want to work for a business that is helping to shape a sustainable future, not only because it's right, but because I believe a change in culture is inevitable, and when it happens, I want to be ahead of the game!
And perhaps that could be working within the CSR department of a private sector firm, or maybe it would be for an organisation that helped people to obtain allotments and grow their own veg. Whatever it is, it has to be helping to bring about social change with sustainability in mind.
I want to make a difference!
