If I may just set the scene....
I'd like to think that I am beyond consumerism, but the truth is that I still have a weakness when it comes to clothes. When it comes to cosmetics (which I don't buy many of anyway), I always buy ethical and never anything that has been tested on animals. When it comes to food, I buy ethical. I don't care much for having a fast, petrol guzzling car. I don't need the latest, newest, shiniest anything.... except when it comes to clothes. Don't get me wrong, I don't look like I've just stepped off a cat walk, and I certainly don't set trends with my wardrobe... I have just one weakness when it comes to clothes, and that's Fat Face! Practical, yet funky, and definitely good quality.
So each month, just before pay day for the last year or so, I have told myself that I don't need anymore clothes. Then pay day arrives and I'll be in town for a decent reason like buying new tea towels or something similar, and I can never resist the alure of the shop. Before you know it, I'm £100 down and have a few new items for the wardrobe!
But this month, I have done things differently...
I set up an ebay account last month to sell some of my old stuff - one item being a pair of Fat Face jeans that I had bought on impulse and were really too long for me. And when preparing my listing I happened across hundreds of other Fat Face items for sale for next to nothing! 5 purchases later and I have realised that I can in fact buy virtually the whole shop for £100! It's fantastic!
And I think this also puts a tick in the green box, which seems a good enough reason to keep buying ![]()
